The Earthworks1 design philosophy balances two major factors: the needs of the Client and the nature of the site. These are ascertained by good communication, surveys and analysis. The underlying principles that drive the design process are a respect for life and a respect for place.
In respecting life: habitat is created where possible in the form of bird boxes, ponds, hedges and trees. Organic systems like composters and water butts are incorporated in the designs if required. The absence of chemicals in a garden ensures safety for playing children, animals and birds. It has been shown that being among nature slows the heart rate and relaxes the mind and body, reducing stress and benefiting health overall.
In respecting place: Cheri will imaginatively tie the garden in with the surrounding landscape and to the house by use of colour, form or materials. A place and its history are respected by the re-use of materials on site where practical.
