Family Garden, Chapel Allerton, Leeds
David, Caroline and family had lived in their house for a few years when they decided to renovate the overgrown garden. They had installed a play area with swings and slide when they moved in and still needed somewhere to entertain friends. They also wanted somewhere beautiful to sit still and stare.
The slope across the long narrow garden was a design challenge. Elegantly curving stone walls at seat height help to manage the slope and separate play and entertaining areas from the lawn, giving a feeling of intimacy and enclosure. A new set of steps leading from the deck connect the house and garden. Rowan trees for autumn colour and apple trees for fruit make a dynamic upper storey to the garden, and cheerful bulbs and flowering herbaceous plants bring the garden to life throughout the seasons.

Garden owners David and Caroline of Chapel Allerton say:
“We're so glad we found Cheri to design our garden. She was an absolute joy to work with - thoughtful, creative and friendly. She was careful to try and incorporate everything that we'd asked for, but also not afraid to suggest bold things that we hadn't really thought of. We are overjoyed with the results - to say the garden is transformed is an understatement. Friends and family can't even believe it's the same place!"
"Having just spent our first proper summer enjoying all of its charms, we've come to realise just how well designed it was by Cheri, and we're looking forward to many years of enjoying it.”
