Contemporary Courtyard Garden, Morley, West Yorkshire

The clients contacted me to ask for a design that would change their uninspiring yeard into a relaxing, contemporary space where they could unwind. They run a busy restaurant and cocktail bar right next door, so have little time for maintenance and the garden needed to reflect that.

We chose a materials palette of York stone cobbles and modern, light cream coloured paving to tie the old stone of the surrounding market town to the modern interior of the house. Calming evergreen leaves and silvery grasses are a backdrop to white and mauve flowers.

The water feature, designed to bring to mind a Yorkshire stone trough, circulates through copper pipes, adding soothing sounds. This was a small, unused space that is now a true sanctuary, adding immeasurable value to the quality of life for this family, as well as adding value to the property.
